Projects to Identify or Validate Targets for Therapeutics against Diabetes Complications

Background and Purpose of request:
JDRF is committed to translation of research findings towards clinical results.
JDRF is soliciting expressions of interest for identification or validation of new targets for therapeutic intervention to prevent, treat, reverse or ameliorate the following complications of type 1 diabetes: retinopathy, neuropathy or nephropathy. Expressions of interest should be submitted as attached pdf via e-mail to Magdalena Eriksson, Ph.D. meriksson@jdrf.org under the subject line “EOI-Target Id-Val”.

JDRF is soliciting expressions of interest for identification, development or pre-clinical testing of novel therapeutic approaches designed to prevent, treat, reverse or ameliorate the following complications of type 1 diabetes: retinopathy, with a higher priority on non-proliferative retinopathy or progression from nonproliferative to proliferative stages, and all stages of diabetic neuropathy or nephropathy. Expressions of interest should be submitted as attached pdf via e-mail to Helen Nickerson Ph.D. hnickerson@jdrf.org under the subject line “EOI-PCT”.

Joyce Brenner Women’s Health Research Award

Foundation for Women’s Wellness is honored to announce the Joyce Brenner Women’s Health Research Award created in the esteemed memory of Joyce Brenner to improve medicine’s understanding of women’s health.  Areas of interest include cardiovascular disease, leading female cancers (lung, breast, and ovarian), and hormones’ role in causing and treating health concerns; however any topic deemed important to women’s health will be considered.  One time funding of up to $20,000 will be provided during fir st quarter of 2008.

NIH Seeks New Reaserch for Prostatitis/CPPS 
The RFA, Multi-disciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) Research Network (RFA-DK-07-003) is now published on the NIH website (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-DK-07-003.html).

The NIDDK funding commitment for this program is up to $7.5 million per year for a five year funding period. We expect to fund up to six Discovery Sites at $1,000,000 Total Costs each year, as well as a separately funded Data Coordinating/Administrative Core and a Tissue Analysis and Technology Core (each to be supported at $750,000 in Total Costs per year).
