The Dr. Josef Steiner Cancer Research
Foundation Award 2009

The Dr. Josef Steiner Cancer Foundation announces that it is accepting applications for the 2009 Cancer Research Award. The award consists of financial support for a cancer-related research project in the maximal amount of CHF 1'000'000.- over four years and, in addition, a personal prize in the amount of CHF 50'000.- awarded to the successful principal investigator. The award and price will be presented to the successful candidate in November 2009 at a public ceremony at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

Heinrich Wieland Prize
In endowing the Heinrich Wieland Prize Boehringer Ingelheim demonstrates its commitment to promote research on lipids and related substances in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and clinical medicine.

Beaufort Marine Research Awards

The aim of the awards is to significantly develop overall research capacity particularly in priority areas of marine research as outlined in Sea Change: A Marine Knowledge, Research and Innovation Strategy for Ireland 2007-2013. Following the recent announcement by Mr. Noel Dempsey TD, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources of these awards, applications are now sought from research groups who wish to further develop their research teams. Awards will be made to research groups to fund the following:
Principal Investigators - Up to seven years funding  .
Researchers - Up to seven years funding  
PhD Studentships - These are 4 year awards to graduates with allowance for the students to carry out part of their PhD training at international centres of excellence.
Summer student placements - These placements are designed to introduce undergraduate students to the research activities of the groups.

Sofja Kovalevskaja Award
Submit an application if you are a successful top-rank junior researcher from abroad, only completed your doctorate with distinction in the last six years, and have published work in prestigious international journals or publishing houses. The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award allows you to spend five years building up working groups and working on a high-profile, innovative research project of your own choice at a research institution of your own choice in Germany.
Scientists and scholars from all disciplines may apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation directly by 4 January 2008. The Humboldt Foundation will be able to grant up to eight Sofja Kovalevskaja Awards in 2008. The award is valued at 1.65 million EUR.

2007 Autumn Call for Funding proposals

The research award will be given up to three years. The CRF has over $1.2 million dollars in research funds available. The number of awards and their value will depend on the number of outstanding proposals and the funds available at the time.

NIH Seeks New Reaserch for Prostatitis/CPPS 
The RFA, Multi-disciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) Research Network (RFA-DK-07-003) is now published on the NIH website (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-DK-07-003.html).

The NIDDK funding commitment for this program is up to $7.5 million per year for a five year funding period. We expect to fund up to six Discovery Sites at $1,000,000 Total Costs each year, as well as a separately funded Data Coordinating/Administrative Core and a Tissue Analysis and Technology Core (each to be supported at $750,000 in Total Costs per year).
