The Roche Foundation for Anemia Research (RoFAR)
RoFAR announces a new special competition cycle
In addition to its regular research grant awards, RoFAR now invites scientists and institutions to submit applications for a special grant of up to 1.6 million CHF. RoFAR is particularly interested in innovative proposals, involving established researchers, which provide proof of principle and/or translational research, particularly studies which have the potential to be transferred into clinical practice.

Julius Axelord Prize

The Society for Neuroscience is pleased to announce the inaugural year of the Julius Axelrod Prize. The Prize was established to honor a scientist with distinguished achievements in the broad fields of neuropharmacology or a related area and exemplary efforts in mentoring young
scientists.
The prize, with an honorarium of $25,000, will be presented each year during the Society's annual meeting, and the recipient will be invited to give a talk at a symposium organized by three institutes of the National Institutes of Health just prior to the annual meeting.
Prix Galien USA
The Prix Galien recognizes the technical scientific and clinical reearch skills necessary to drvelop innovative medicines.
All pharmaceutical and biological drugs or devices that have been US FDA approved for first or new indications in the past 5 years (2002 – 2006) are eligible to enter.
Sainsbury Management Fellowships in the Life Sciences
The Sainsbury Management Fellowship Scheme in the Life Sciences, which is funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, supports scientists of high career potential to undertake activities related to their Personal Development Plans.
The award covers the cost of activities related to an individual's personal development plan, subject to approval.
Suitable activities may include:
Full and part-time short courses and distance learning packages relating either to technology or management, such as an MBA.
The Rammal Award
The Rammal Award, created in memory of the great Lebanese physicist Rammal Rammal (1951-1991), is awarded each year to an outstanding personality of strong scientific stature who, through his or her life and activity in a Mediterranean country (whether in fundamental or applied research, teaching, or the integration of knowledge), has elevated the level of scientific exchanges in this part of the world.
Ramon Margalef Prize
The candidatures must reach the Technical Secretariat of the Prize before 31 May and must be submitted by qualified representatives from universities, schools of higher learning, research centres, academies of science, or by persons who have been awarded the Prize or who have been members of the Jury of the Prize.
The main aim of the Prize is to recognise an exceptional scientific career or discovery in the field of ecology or other environmental science that has contributed to: significant progress in environmental knowledge or in scientific thought and knowledge, or to the development of theoretical approaches for the sound management of natural resources, or use of the land and sea
The Prize may be awarded to scientist or group of scientists from anywhere in the world
The Prize is worth one hundred thousand (100,000) euros.
The candidatures must be submitted before 31 May 2007 in a letter or statement of well reasoned justification signed and dated by the presenter, accompanied by a curriculum vitae of the candidate.
NATO Funding
The Science for Peace and Security Programme offers grants to scientists in NATO, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue countries to collaborate on priority research topics, which include NATO priorities and additional Partner country priorities. Grants are also offered to assist the academic community in Partner countries to set up computer networking infrastructure and to optimize their use of electronic communication.
