The Synergistic Idea Award

Supports innovative, high-risk/high-reward breast cancer research collaborations between two independent, faculty-level (or equivalent) investigators who address a central problem or question in breast cancer research from synergistic and complementary perspectives. Award amount: $500,000.

Pre-application Submission Deadline: January 23, 2007
Proposal Submission Deadline: February 13, 2007

2007 Competition
Rippel Scholars Award for New Investigators
The Fannie E. Rippel Foundation invites proposals from new investigators nominated by their institutions for their outstanding promise in their chosen field. The major goal of this program is to encourage and support sex-difference biomedical research and gender specific medicine related to cardiovascular disease and function. The program also assists in the career development of junior investigators committed to cardiovascular-related research utilizing a gender-based approach. One grant of $100,000 will be awarded in 2007.

The Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition
Graduate Student Award

Two awards of $20,000 a year for two years are offered to fund graduate students undertaking research in the biology and epidemiology of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver or pancreas. They must be working towards their PhD degree. The award includes $18,000 for stipend and $2,000 to be used towards fringe benefits such as medical insurance and travel to a national meeting.

Jon I Isenberg International Research Scholar Award
This award, established in 2004, provides a total of $50,000 for one year of study, $25,000 from the AGA and $25,000 in matching funds from the applicant’s national GI society. The award provides for non-US citizen young investigators to spend one year performing GI-related research at an American institution under the tutelage of an AGA member.

Student Research Fellowship Awards
This program offers awards between $2000 and $3000 per student to spend time performing research in digestive diseases or nutrition for a minimum of ten (10) weeks. The research may take place at any time during the year.

Bridging Grants

Awards of $50,000 each are available to assist investigators were not awarded their first R01 or the first renewal of their R01 to continue their gastroenterology related research. Two awards will be made following each of the three annual NIH review cycles and availability of Summary Statements.

The Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program

The Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program is pleased to announce its 2007 Competition.
The Program will be awarding eight $80,000 scholarships to Ph.D students throughout the Amerias to conduct research critical to conserving the national Parks of the region.

NIH ANNOUNCES LICENSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR RARE DISEASE TECHNOLOGIES

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched a new website offering technologies available for commercial licensing that are related to rare diseases or conditions.
Currently consists of more than 500 such technologies, including drugs, biologics, and devices, available to be transferred from the NIH and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to the private sector for further research and development and potential commercialization.
