EMBO Installation Grants
Strengthening life sciences across Europe
The aim of this new scheme is to strengthen science in participating EMBC member states. At present applications are accepted from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Portugal, Poland and Turkey. Additional member states have expressed an interest to join in the near future.
The grants will help scientists to relocate, set up their labs and rapidly establish a reputation in the European scientific community. The scheme is entirely funded by the participating EMBC member states and successful applicants receive an annual support of €50,000 for three to five years. Each participating country sets an upper limit to the number of grants available per year.

Bernstein Award 2007
Young Scientists Research Award in Computational Neuroscience.
The "Bernstein Award" is equipped with up to €1.250 Mio in the form of a grant over a period of five years. It will be awarded to a highly qualified young researcher, considering the candidates' verifiable research profile in the field of computational neuroscience and the scientific concept for a future young research group. Young researchers can apply for their own position and group. The group funded by the "Bernstein Award" will become an integral part of the National Network for Computational Neuroscience.The grant is provided for scientific project of a young research group headed by a postdoc regardless of nationality. The Project will be conducted at a German University or research institution concerned employs the young researcher during the funding period and supportes him or her with the basic equipment in terms of laboratory space and other infrastructure.

NIH ANNOUNCES LICENSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR RARE DISEASE TECHNOLOGIES
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched a new website offering technologies available for commercial licensing that are related to rare diseases or conditions.
Currently consists of more than 500 such technologies, including drugs, biologics, and devices, available to be transferred from the NIH and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to the private sector for further research and development and potential commercialization.
