Support for Outstanding Junior Scholars
to Conduct Innovative research in Germany.
The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award is open to highly acclaimed scholars and scientists from all countries and disciplines. Applicant must have completed a doctoral degree with distinction within the past six years and have published in prestigious international journals or academic presses. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation particularly welcomes applications from qualified, female junior researchers.
Funding enables winners to conduct independent research, to finance a research team at German University or research institution of their choice, and to cover living expenses in Germany.

European Science Foundation
ESF Research conferences Call for proposals
The European Scientist foundation now invites proposals for conferences to be held is 2008 and 2009. The call is addressed to leading European scientists for conference to take place in Europe.
Call for proposals-2009 conferences
The following areas will be covered by the call:
• Biology at the Interface with other science disciplines (ESF-EMBO Symposia)
• Physics/Biophysics and Environmental Sciences (ESF-FWF Conferences in partnership with
LFUI)
• Social science and Humanities (ESF-LiU conferences)
• Global Change Research (ESF-VR-FORMAS Conferences)
The proposals will be evaluated through international peer review for which referees will be nominated by the appropriate ESF scientific comities. The final assessment and selection of topics on the basis of three written reviews, will be made jointly by the partner organizations through a review panel composed of members of ESF scientific comities and scientists nominated by partner organizations.

Call for proposals-2008 conferences
A second call is also open for conferences to take place in 2008 in the field of Mathematics. A maximum of three proposals will be selected within the framework of the new partnership established with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Poland (MSHE) and the Institute of Mathematics of Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). The proposals will be assessed by the three Partner organizations.

Call for nominations for the AAAS International Scientific Cooperation Award
The AAAS International Scientific Cooperation Award, presented at the AAAS Annual Meeting, February 2008 In Boston, is given to an individual or small group in the scientific and Engineering community that has contributed substantially to the understanding or development of science or engineering across national boundaries. The award is open to all regardless of nationality and citizenship. Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination. The recipient receives US $5000 award, a commemorative travel and hotel expenses.

Research Awards for Innovation in Neuroscience (RAIN)

The Society for Neuroscience is pleased to announce the inaugural year of the Research Awards for Innovation in Neuroscience (RAIN). The award was established to honor imaginative, innovative research that will advance novel ideas and have the potential to lead to significant breakthroughs in the understanding of the brain and nervous system and related diseases. Nominations will be accepted from individuals at all stages of their career. Three award recipients will be chosen. Each award will consist of $25,000 of unrestricted research funds for the recipient's institution.
