CERIES Research Award 2006
Intent: To honor research concerning Physiology or biology of health skin and/or its reaction to environmental factors.

The CE.R.I.E.S. Research Award is intended to honor the accomplishments of a researcher in dermatology and to encourage his or her continued research activity. The field of research may be fundamental or clinical in nature and must concern the physiology or biology of healthy skin and/or its reactions to environmental factors. The money granted must be associated with further research projects.

IRP international Foundation for Research in Paraplegia
Schellenberg Prize for Research 2006

The prize, up to SwF100'000 (Swiss Francs), is meant to provide additional funds for a young but already established and successful scientist working experimentally in the above-mentioned fields. The money awarded, by permitting to hire new co-worker or personnel, and by buying equipment or supplies, should help investigate avenues than can lead, in due course, to progress in spinal cord regeneration and functional recovery.

Call for PhD Grant Applications
IRB Barcelona institute for Research in biomedicine
The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) is an international centre of excellence in basic and applied biomedical research situated at the Barcelona Science Park on the University of Barcelona campus. At present, it comprises 25 research groups organized into five programmes: Cell and Developmental Biology, Structural and Computational Biology, Molecular Medicine, Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, and Applied and Translational Oncology.

IRB welcomes young scientists with outstanding qualifications from the national and international community to join its PhD programme. We invite highly motivated biologists, biochemists, chemists and pharmacologists to do their PhD in a stimulating environment, rich in technological resources and campus life. PhD students will train in a multidisciplinary community of scientists working at the cutting edge of modern biomedical science. Current PhD fellowship openings are shown below.

2006 BIAL Award
The 2006 edition of the Bial Award will once again honour two works in the following categories: ‘Bial Merit Award in Medical Sciences’ - for national or foreign work of a medical nature on a free topic which represents research with a major impact or which is distinguished for its quality and scientific importance €150,000; and, ‘Bial Award in Clinical Medicine’, which honours a freely-chosen topic of high quality, in the sphere of Clinical Medical practice €50,000. The Bial Foundation prize will also acknowledge various works with an Honourable Mention €5,000 each).

NIH Pathway to Independence (PI) Award (K99/R00)

NIH will issue between 150 and 200 awards for this program in its initial year, beginning in fall 2006, and anticipates issuing the same number of awards each of the following five years.
